Odd and Even Numbers – Free Math Tutoring Video

This free math tutoring video shows a way to introduce even and odd numbers to preschoolers and kindergarteners (or any age!) using Cuisenaire Rods. The pattern is much easier to remember when you can see it in color pictures rather than abstract symbols. Right-brained, visual-spatial learners will find this a breath of fresh air compared to what they are used to in school!

Counting On

This free math video shows me introducing my 4-year-old to the concept of counting on. Having a visual with the Cuisenaire Rods helps make it more concrete. We also count to 50 and talk a little bit about teen numbers. Academics should be fun at this age, not drudgery!

Single Color Trains

Here is a free math video that shows an excellent activity to do with preschoolers (or any age when first working with Cuisenaire Rods!) to help them internalize more of the structure of our number system. This is the gateway to learning multiplication, division, and fractions. Even very young children can begin to learn about these topics when they are presented this way. You will spend a lot more time teaching these concepts if you only use pencil and paper to introduce them! Cuisenaire Rods help children and adults to SEE the patterns inherent in our number system.
