It is helpful to have either two small group sets of Cuisenaire Rods or else one set and a set of Base Ten Rods, too, when playing the game in this free math tutoring video. This would also be a good game to play with kids who are different ability levels – one could figure out the number bonds of ten and the other could add up each person’s score each turn.

The game idea in this free math tutoring video came from LetsPlayMath.net and we just added Cuisenaire Rods to it to make it more visual and kinesthetic. We actually show FOUR different versions of the game in this video. You would pick only one version to play through a whole game. More ways to play this game will be posted in other videos!

I got the idea in this free math tutoring video from Let’sPlayMath, though we changed it just a bit and didn’t use the 10 card. This game could be played alone, too. A great way to practice those number bonds of 10 which are SO important to doing mental math!
